Not what I was expecting

Rebutia fabrisii v. aurieflora

I bought this plant last autumn, expecting it to be the white-flowered Rebutia albiflora.

But no… it’s produced a handful of rather lovely orange flowers, and appears that it’s more likely to be a Rebutia fabrisii v. aureiflora instead.

I’m always getting surprised too. I’ve just come to expect it–I would say that 10% of the cacti I buy are labeled wrong. Usually it has to do with the flower color, but occasionally they labels are totally off on genus and species. I can id many cacti by the characteristics, but even that doesn’t work at times. The flower is beautiful, though.

It’s lovely isn’t it?

To be fair, when I bought this one, I identified it as Rebutia albiflora myself as it came without any label at all, and it seemed to tally physically with plants of albiflora that I’ve grown in the past.

Latest I’ve had from the BCSS forum is that it’s quite likely to be a hybrid after all, and not R. fabrisii var aureiflora!
