My new cabbages
Posted by Stuart under: Other Succulents .
Having been a grower of nothing but cacti for years, I now find - to my surprise - that leafy things have started making their way into my greenhouse. The rot started when I bought a couple of conophytums a few years ago. My interest in these funny little plants grew as I watched them go through their yearly cycle, and I was inspired enough to develop an interest in mesembs in general.
Then came the adromischus, which came in exchange for a selection of hardy opuntia cuttings. These are mostly unrooted cuttings at present, and so not really worthy of photographing.
I knew I was doomed when, late last week, I received a box containing the haworthias illustrated here, thanks to Marlon. I’ve - unexpectedly - started to find the windowed leaves of these plants really attractive. They look amazing when you hold them up to the light, not unlike ophthalmophyllums.
The plants in this picture are, left to right, top to bottom row:
Haworthia maraisii var. notabilis ex. ZSS
Haworthia cooperi var. cooperi JDV91/82
Haworthia hybrid truncata X cooperi ex. ZSS
