Seedling update - Turbs, Setiechinopsis and Corryocactus
Posted by Stuart under: Cacti; Propagation .
A couple of the young plants in my more advanced pot of Turbinicarpus polaskii seedlings from my own seed are now starting to develop their “phase two” spination.
Though still not the corky, curved spines of adulthood, but they are very obviously dark brown and nothing like the very early feathered spines that these little fellows produce. Amazingly, the strongest growing plant was disturbed when I first took a photo of them but doesn’t seem to have suffered any ill effects.
Of the 2005-vintage BCSS forum seed that I’m trying out, the slowest to germinate so far has been Corryocactus melanotrichus.
These fast growing columnars certainly make up for their germination time by getting going pretty quickly once out of their seed husks.
This plant has been up less than a week and has changed massively in that time.
Finally, some more seedlings grown from my own seed: Setiechinopsis mirabilis.
These took over three weeks to germinate; in fact I was starting to think they weren’t going to bother, but they are now developing really nicely.
