Rhipsalis & Lepismium
by Frank Supplie

Rhipsalis coverAs someone who used to have a real enthusiasm for growing epiphytic cacti, Rhipsalis in particular, I found this book to be a real delight.

It is printed bilingually, with German and English in concurrent columns, and if I have one minor criticism it is that the English translation is sometimes a little unidiomatic. However, that doesn’t really matter here, as the quality of information is excellent.

Supplie goes into substantial detail regarding the history, cultivation and particular pests that threaten these two genera, as well as providing full descriptions of all species. The photography is excellent throughout - it would only be better if the book were in a larger format than it is.

These days I keep just one plant of Rhipsalis floccosa, but there are certainly enough forms illustrated here to rekindle the old enthusiasm. If only I had the space…

In all honesty I don’t remember exactly but I lost a lot of epiphytic plants to disease. My R. floccosa survived, so you might say it chose me rather than the other way round!

Always good to see a review of the books we try to make available for the people. Concerning the translation, we had our problems with the translator who translated this. Still good you liked the book as it was fun to made, it took me 15 years to complete it. Greetings Frank Supplie
