First death of the winter
Posted by Stuart under: Cacti .
I’ve killed my Uebelmannia.
I had only had it a few months; my greenhouse is kept warm with good air circulation, but obviously not good enough. The poor thing had rotted away at the base, right up the stem of the plant.
The remaining sound portion at the top of the stem is very short, but I’m going to have a go at rooting it anyway instead of just chucking it out. I’m almost certain it’s completely done-for, though.

Bah – it’s always a sad occasion when this happens.

Yikes!
poor Uebelmannia.
that plant was a beauty, a dissappointing loss no doubt. did the top send down roots?
mines tiny, i think i will have to bring it inside come winter time.

No such luck, Lewis. There was so little left at the top of the plant that it just withered to nothing unfortunately.
They’re beautiful things, and I’ve always been wary of them because they can be so difficult, especially in our conditions in the UK, but I’m determined to have another go and get it right next time!
