Another retrospective display
Posted by Stuart under: Cacti .
Although it’s been a poor year generally for Ariocarpus flowers, one of my A. agavoides did at least put on a display.
Sadly I didn’t manage to catch the flower completely open – one minute it was open wide, and by the time I’d fetched my camera it was closing up for the night. This photo was taken on the 4th of September, at about 4 o’clock in the afternoon.
Which this Ariocarpus obviously considers to be bed-time.
The Lophophora williamsii shown here was photographed on the 26th of September; it proved, sadly, to be little more than a temporary visitor. It was bought early in September and despite the constantly circulating air in my greenhouse, thanks to my heater/fan unit, and – more importantly – despite having received no water, I discovered not much later that it was rotting around its neck. I’ve salvaged its offset for rooting, but the rest went to the great compost bin in the sky.
