They scorch too
Posted by Stuart under: Cacti .
Turbinicarpus are generally solitary plants in the wild, but the less stressful growing conditions they receive in cultivation tends to bring out their clumping instinct. T. krainzianus seems to get particularly carried away.
This example of T. klinkerianus was bought from a collection disposal a good few years ago and had already sustained some damage to its growing point; since then I’ve managed to scorch it not once but twice.
Not only is it clustering from side shoots but is also throwing out new shoots from the main stem near the crown. I don’t think it’ll ever be an attractive plant again, but it’s interesting to watch it to see what it does.
