Mesembs of the World
Posted by Stuart under: Books; Other Succulents .
I’ve been spending a bit of time recently with the book Mesembs of the World by Gideon Smith et al. It’s a tremendous resource and describes all the currently-recognised genera of the succulent Aizoaceae, with photos, descriptions, and cultivation information relating to all sorts of South African marvels.
As I’m coming to Mesembs as a novice, this book has given me pretty much everything I wanted - a nice overview of the family with some more specific information. The quality of the photography is excellent - my personal favourite is the image of the Shmoo-plant, Muiria hortenseae, in flower.
There is another review posted on succulents.net; to get hold of the book I’d recommend Keith Larkin of Keith’s Plant Books whose service is tremendous.
